This Beer Cheese Dipping Sauce Will Take Your Snack Game to the Next Level

If you've never had beer cheese, you need to try it. It's great with all sorts of things! You can, of course, use it for dipping soft pretzels or pretzel bites, but also, try it on some fresh or steamed broccoli, pita chips, cauliflower, carrots, celery... get creative! This is what you'll need for 2 cups of beer cheese:

    Ingredients:

    • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
    • 3 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
    • 3/4 cup whole milk or half-and-half
    • 2/3 cup beer*
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 and 1/2 cups (10 ounces) shredded gouda or gruyere cheese
    • 1 cup sharp cheddar

Begin by shredding your cheddar cheese and setting it aside.

Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously until a thick, clumpy paste forms, about 1 minute.

Slowly pour in the milk, whisking constantly. After all the milk is added, continue to whisk until the mixture thickens slightly, about another minute.

Gradually whisk in the remaining ingredients, one at a time, until fully combined.

Remove the saucepan from heat and transfer the cheese dip to a serving dish. If desired, sprinkle some extra cheese on top. The dip will be thin immediately after cooking but will thicken as it cools. It's delicious served warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave before serving again.

    *Note:

The deeper the flavor of the beer, the more robust the dip will taste. The dip tastes like the beer you use, so use your favorite. Pale ales or wheat beers add a more mellow flavor.
