(Polk County) Two people died in a single-vehicle crash in Polk County.

The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 7:20 a.m. on Saturday on eastbound Interstate 80 near the 134-mile marker. Authorities say the driver, 65-year-old William L. Engel, and his passenger, 58-year-old Rose A. Engel, both from Cookville, Texas, died in the crash.

According to the report, an eastbound 2014 Honda CR-V veered to the right side of the road, struck a guardrail and a pole, went down an embankment, and landed in a creek upside down in the water.

Rose A. Engel was pronounced deceased at the scene. Johnston EMS transported William L, Engel to Methodist Hospital, where he later died.

    The accident remains under investigation.
