    Cooper basketball teams head to post-season

    Cooper boys and girls basketball teams both played two conference games last week to conclude their regular seasons.

    Cooper boys basketball started last week on a high note with a 66-50 win over Kennedy at home, earning its seventh conference win of the season.

    Rylan McPipe scored 19 points against Kennedy on Seniors Night, while Chance Wicks added 15 and Jahnial Jones put up 10.

    Cooper then played its final conference and regular season game of the season on Feb. 22, traveling to Brooklyn Center and winning 83-42 over the Centaurs to complete an 8-8 record in the Tri-Metro Conference, 10-12 overall this season.

    Cooper girls basketball lost their opening game last week in a close contest, falling 59-50 to Kennedy on the road. Somah Kamara scored 27 points for Cooper against Kennedy, while Nyema Montgomery added eight.

    Cooper then hosted Visitation in a close 54-51 loss on Feb. 22 to conclude its regular season and adjust their conference record to 4-11, 8-17 overall. Kamara scored 19 points against Visitation, while Zoe Simmons scored eight and both Amiyah Rulford and Ziyarah Turner-Stensrud added six each.

    Sixth-seed Cooper girls basketball will take part in the Section 6AAA tournament the following week, traveling to play third-seed Orono in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
