Octavia-The fairest dog in the land
Greetings, humans! I'm Octavia, the fairest lady in the land. It'll take some time for you to win my hand, but if you bring me your best snacks and allow me to open up at my own pace, you'll see what a prize my heart really is. I adore my people more than anything, and I can't get enough snuggles and love. I'm also a scholar: I know sit, paw, other paw, and I'm learning down & the rules of fetch! I would love to learn even more with you to help boost my confidence and teach me to not be so jumpy! I would do best if my family consisted of older kids, and I may be interested in a canine partner, but we'd have to meet first to make sure it's a good match. So if you want to come compete for my hand, then come down to the shelter to meet me today!

PREVIEW: ‘Catarina and the Beauty of Killing Fascists’ at PS21 in Chatham July 5 and 6
Chatham, N.Y. — It is a matter of unprecedented urgency—more urgency than you would typically expect from the U.S. premiere of a new work by Portuguese playwright Tiago Rodrigues. It is an urgency that PS21 Artistic Director Elena V. Siyanko articulates this way: “What better time to reflect on our own democratic institutions, whose future is in jeopardy as perhaps never before in our history, than July 4th weekend?” Accordingly, on July 5 and 6, PS21 is presenting what they believe is one of this or any season’s most innovative dramatic works, “Catarina and the Beauty of Killing Fascists,” from the National Theater of Portugal and Festival d’Avignon.
From the kitchen of Barbara Beach
Sheffield— I used to be an art teacher at the wonderful neighborhood Housatonic School that is still waiting for someone to occupy its hallowed halls after the school system closed the neighborhood schools and built the Muddybrook School. I still remember the great times that were had at “Housey,” especially the food we shared. One of the teachers made the following salad. It sounds odd, but it is delicious. It is a nice cool summer salad and a great summer side dish.
