Mosquitoes in Aquebogue, Manorville test positive for West Nile virus
Mosquito samples collected two weeks ago from Aquebogue and Manorville tested positive for the West Nile virus, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services said today. Forty mosquito samples collected across the county on July 16 and 17, including two from Aquebogue and two from Manorville, tested positive for the virus. which can be transmitted to humans through mosquito bites, the county agency said in a press release. Another mosquito sample collected on July 10 from Manorville also tested positive for the virus, the health department said.
Governor Hochul Announces $2 Million Grant to Patchogue Arts Council for New Cultural Center
Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a $2 million grant to the Patchogue Arts Council (PAC) for the construction of a new, multi-disciplinary, cultural arts center on Main Street in East Patchogue. This $3.5 million project is part of a broader $47 million downtown revitalization effort to redevelop the former Mediterranean Manor site into housing. The cultural arts center is also supported by an $800,000 Suffolk County Jumpstart grant.
