Jacksonville (Fla.) The Bolles School four-star 2026 linebacker Simeon Caldwell doesn’t have a list of top schools this early in his recruiting process, but the No. 49 overall prospect in next year’s cycle knows he’s considering Miami .

Caldwell, who is listed as a safety in the On3 Industry Ranking but is being recruited by Miami at linebacker, will return to Coral Gables for the Canes’ end-of-summer recruiting cookout today. His visit will mark his first trip to The U since attending a spring practice in April, although Miami’s staff has recruited him hard over the summer.

Miami linebackers coach Derek Nicholson has increased communication with Caldwell since coaches became permitted to directly call and text 2026 recruits in mid-June. Caldwell is also the nephew of former Miami defensive coordinator Tim Walton , who is currently Ohio State’s secondary and cornerbacks coach.

“I liked my visit in April,” Caldwell said. “When you’re making your college decision, you’re going to be spending your college career there, spending three-to-four years there. They’re going to be basically your new family, so I feel like in a decision, going off one visit for the schools I’m considering, I (wouldn’t) feel comfortable committing to a school I’ve only seen once. So going back to a school that I’m interested in multiple times and building a connection with the coaches is important.”

Caldwell said he’s “super interested” in Miami and knew he wanted to return to Coral Gables again. Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Wisconsin have all been in contact with the blue-chip prospect and have caught his attention as well.

He added he’s built a strong relationship with Nicholson and said Miami was the first school to contact him after coaches became permitted to contact 2026 prospects. Caldwell said he’s been in “constant communication” with Miami’s staff.

“(Nicholson) is a great guy,” Caldwell said. “He knows what he’s talking about football-wise, especially when I was able to sit in their position meeting in April. He really knows what tips and tricks to give his players that translate to the field and let them make plays. He’s a good person to talk to and just get to know.”

Caldwell said he doesn’t feel distance to home will be a factor when he narrows down his list of schools.

    CaneSport’s Take

Caldwell first gained some national attention at the National Combine at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio earlier this year, and his stock only rose during spring evaluations. Caldwell is long and rangy enough to play safety but has a build that could easily be beefed up and moved to linebacker.
