Florida voters: Deadline to register to vote in the 2024 primary election is fast approaching
The deadline to register to vote or change your party affiliation in time for the Tuesday, August 20 primary election is Monday night, July 22. Click here to check and see if you are registered. If you miss that deadline, there’s still time to register to vote in the November 5 general election. The deadline to register for that election is Monday, Oct. 7.
Reactions to a Florida law banning people from sleeping or camping on public property

Miami Affordable Housing Project Converting to Boutique Hotel
An affordable housing apartment owner in Miami Beach has told residents to move out so they can convert the 56 apartments into a 76-room boutique hotel. The Miami Beach Historic Preservation Committee recently voted to allow the building owner to renovate the Riviera Plaza Apartments at 337 20th Street. The residents have 60 days to find another place to live. The structure, built in 1926, was originally a hotel until it was converted into apartments later.
Longtime Florida Horseman Milton S. Hendry Dies at 82
Longtime Florida horseman Milton S. Hendry, 82, died June 27 in Crystal River, Fla. The native of Bay Springs, Miss., loved horses all of his life and first became professionally involved with show horses, reining horses, and barrel racing. He later rode at unsanctioned meets in the South and Midwest before receiving his jockey license to ride Quarter Horses in Louisiana in 1972. Before retiring from riding in 1986, he was a leading Quarter Horse jockey at Commonwealth Race Course in Louisville, Ky., and Pompano Park in Pompano Beach, Fla.
