CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Plans for the Welcome Center at the new North Springs Preserve are moving forward.

The $1.5 million center will be located next to the 150-acre public preserve now under construction on the former Heron Bay golf course that straddles Coral Springs and Parkland.

It will house administrative offices and serve as a venue for special events, according to Rod Colon, district manager of the North Springs Improvement District, which is overseeing the project.

The center will also feature a dedicated area honoring the 17 lives lost in the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, as well as spaces for security equipment and irrigation technology for the preserve.

“So it’s a welcome center, an administrative office, part museum and education center, and special events center,” Colon said.

Coral Springs planning officials are now reviewing plans for the center at 11901 Heron Bay Boulevard, which is expected to be 5,000-square-feet, including the parking lot and landscaping.
