St. Paul Presbyterian Church is proud to announce that Kenneth Bernard Haugabrook, Jr., son of Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth B. Haugabrook, has been awarded the prestigious The Reverend Dr. & Mrs. A. S. Clark and Mrs. Eula Burke Johnson Memorial Scholarship. Kenneth, Jr. a recent high school graduate, has been accepted to Valdosta State University, where he will begin his academic journey this fall.

The Reverend Dr. & Mrs. A. S. Clark and Mrs. Eula Burke Johnson Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the enduring legacies of The Reverend Dr. Augustus S. Clark and his wife, Mrs. Annie Clark  and Nurse Eula Burke Johnson. The Clarks were the founders of Gillespie-Selden Institute formally known as Gillespie Normal School in 1904, St. Paul Presbyterian Church in 1898 and later established St. Paul Presbyterian Daycare Center.  Mrs. Eula Burke Johnson was the first African-American Registered Nurse in Cordele, GA, Crisp county and surrounding areas.  She was a graduate of Gillespie-Selden Institute and was a life-member  and Ruling Elder of St. Paul Presbyterian Church, Cordele, GA. Her daughter, Mrs. Oweta Hegeman now serves as Commission Ruling Elder of St. Paul.  This scholarship is designed to support motivated young students as they pursue higher education, aiding them in their quest to achieve academic excellence beyond high school.

Kenneth Haugabrook, Jr.  the recipient of this year’s scholarship, has demonstrated remarkable determination and potential. The scholarship, a one-time award of $1,000, will assist him as he embarks on his studies at Valdosta State University.

The mission of this scholarship is to continue the legacies of The Reverend Dr. & Mrs. A. S. Clark and Nurse Eula Burke Johnson.
