    Student arrested after terroristic threats made on TextNow

    Crisp County Sheriff’s Office

    On September 6, 2024, Crisp County Sheriff’s Office arrested Crisp County High School student Morgan Travelstead after a Crisp County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer was notified of terroristic threats made on an application called TextNow.

    Following initial investigative efforts by Crisp County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division and coordination with the Cordele Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office Morgan Travelstead, 17-year-old male from Turner County, Georgia, is charged with Terroristic Threats and Acts. Travelstead’s belongings and vehicle were searched and he was not in possession of any weapons.

    We are actively investigating this incident in coordination with school officials to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. The Crisp County School System is fully cooperating.
    The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office has also notified Georgia Emergency Management/ Homeland Security Agency Area 2 School Resource Division.

    “We take all threats to the safety and security of our citizens seriously. We want to assure our community that any and all threats of violence within our school system will be thoroughly investigated. The safety of our students, teachers, and staff is of utmost importance, and we are committed to working diligently with school officials and other partners to ensure a safe environment for all,” stated Sheriff Billy Hancock.

    “The Crisp County School System appreciates the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office support and quick response to this incident. Our number one priority is the safety of our students and staff members,” stated Cindy Hughes, Crisp County School System Superintendent.

    We urge anyone with information regarding threats or suspicious activity to come forward and report it immediately. Ensuring the safety of our children is a responsibility we all share!
