SUN Bucks program offers help to DMV families with groceries this summer
ARLINGTON, Va. (7News) — Families looking for extra help with groceries this summer could qualify for a new program called SUN Bucks, which provides $120 for each child. “We think of summer as a fun time no school, play all day, but in reality for a lot of families, school breakfast and lunch may be the most nutritious meals there they can afford,” said Joe Liu, the Director of Advocacy and Public Policy at Capital Area Food Bank. “When the schools are closed, families don't have that extra support, and so they have to buy more groceries. They've cost them a lot more, and we know how much inflation has affected the price of food every time we go to the store. And so this extra $120 benefit. It helps close the gap so that families can make sure their kids have healthy food all year long.”

Wine of the Week: Istine Chianti Classico DOCG
This weekend at Piazza Italian Market we are tasting the Chianti Classico DOCG ( ($25.95) from the Istine Winery in Radda In Chianti, Toscana. The black rooster decal on the bottle’s neck designates this wine as being from the original Chianti Classico designation whose boundary was determined by a race between knights from Siena and Firenze and that boundary still exists today. Istine’s three vineyards are located in Castellina in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti and Radda in Chianti. Even in warm vintages, the family’s 20 hectares thrive in the high altitude and rocky soils of their three vineyards.

The event was held in collaboration with Annapolis Sailing School and The Annapolis Maritime Museum. There are several other River Days planned by the county, but this was the only one with fully accessible water facilities and boats. The Naptown Brass Band performed at the event, and attendees enjoyed the food and beverages courtesy of Anne Arundel County Fire Department. During the event, CRAB took four groups out on Dream Catcher, and many others had the chance to learn to skipper the radio-controlled sailboats. The parents with children were very happy to see the CRAB ABC and everything it offers to the disabled community. When one of the little girls was asked if the power boat ride was one or two thumbs up? She responded enthusiastically, "It was 10 thumbs up!" That is what we like to hear!
