After serving as Corning Union High School District Superintendent for six and a half years, Jared Caylor is bidding farewell to the Cardinal nest.

One June 18, Caylor informed the CUHSD Board of Trustees he has accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent with the Tehama County Department of Education, serving with TCDE Superintendent Richard DuVarney.

The District said that while Caylor has not submitted a final resignation date, the Board is initiating the process to appoint a new superintendent. At the direction of the Board, CUHSD on Monday, June 24 posted an advertisement inviting experienced educators to apply for the position.

The Board’s tentative timeline to fill the position was to accept applications through Friday, June 28, with interviews during the week of July 8-12, with the anticipation of the new superintendent to start employment prior to the start of the next school year, Aug. 15.

Caylor, who has worked within the District for 17 years, said, “During my tenure, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside an exceptional group of educators dedicated to the success and well-being of our students. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunities and experiences we have shared, and I leave with cherished memories and a deep appreciation for the remarkable educational community we have fostered.”

He officially became district superintendent on Dec. 14, 2017, upon the resignation of former superintendent John Burch.

Previous to that appointment, Caylor had served temporarily as interim district superintendent for several months.

He started working for the district in 2007 as a social science teacher at Corning High School, having spent a year teaching in Esparto.

He was advanced to the high school’s vice principal in 2011, having earned his master’s degree and administration degree at Simpson College. Caylor earned his teaching degree and credential at California State University, Chico.

“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Board of Trustees for their partnership throughout my tenure as superintendent and their unwavering support during this transition,” Caylor stated.

As for his new employment, Caylor said he is excited for the opportunity the new role will provide.

“I will be able to continue fighting for small and rural schools in a broader context, while also striving to meaningfully support the work that happens with students in schools throughout our county every single day,” he added.

CUHSD is not only losing Caylor at this juncture, but also longtime employee Charlie Troughton who retired this year after more that 30 years with the district, first as a teacher then in administration as vice principal and associate principal.
