Gus Macker Basketball Tournament comes to Corning

CORNING, N.Y. (WETM) — For the first time in 50 years the Gus Macker Basketball Tournament will be held in Corning this weekend.

The games will be played in the Corning Credit Union parking lot where 111 teams, with players of all ages, have signed up to compete in this year’s tournament. Sixteen half courts are set up in the parking lot with each team allowed to have one extra player to substitute with.

Marshall Ferrari the Events Manager at the Corning Gaffer District, says the tournament is a way to bring the community together for a friendly competition.

“There’s such a big community support for basketball, it was just something that I really thought the area would want to have back and the support has shown nothing but that to be true,” said Ferrari.

The tournament will be played on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and continue on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Ferrari added that the tournament will be held in Downtown Elmira in July of next year.
