Enjoy Labor Day Weekend at the 112th Haddam Neck Fair

(August 26, 2024) — As summer winds down, the historic Haddam Neck Fair is set to return for its 112th year, promising a weekend packed with fun, tradition, and new surprises for the whole family. From Friday, August 30, 2024 through Monday, September 2, 2024, the fairgrounds will come alive with music, competitions, exhibits and the welcoming spirit that has made this one of Connecticut’s most cherished agricultural fairs.
HeArts For Justice Puts Youth First
Thirty vendors in a crescent surrounded a central green area. From the stage, a rotating selection of spoken word, music, and dancing was interspersed with an ongoing set from DJ Tunes. Off to the side of the stage, activities and crafts were available, including free tie-dyeing and a community banner. People of all ages darted around, chatting with vendors or people they recognized.

Dynamic teaching is the priority for new Monument Mountain Regional High School Principal Barnes
Great Barrington — Williamstown native Christopher Barnes, who started work as the new principal for Monument Mountain Regional High School in July, said that he got into the education field because he wanted to make a positive difference in the lives of young people. “Growing up, I struggled a lot in school,” Barnes told The Berkshire Edge. “I’m one of 12 kids in my family. I have many siblings who did extremely well and went to grade school. I wasn’t one of them. I took a long route through my undergraduate years because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. Ultimately, I arrived with an understanding that, whatever I did with my career, it had to be impactful. I recalled that the people who impacted my life in a positive way as a young person were teachers, and I wanted to do the same thing and help others.”
Hudson Valley hot-air balloon fest returns for 33rd year
LAGRANGEVILLE — The 33rd annual Hudson Valley hot-air balloon festival will be held from Friday, Aug. 30, to Sunday, Sept. 1, at Tymor Park in Lagrangeville. The weekend will have full hot-air balloon flights, tethered hot-air balloon flights, helicopter rides, fireworks, morning yoga, live music, food trucks, a beer and wine tent, local vendors, and many more family activities to participate in.
