Lighting strike fire displaces 10 from beach house at NC’s Outer Banks

COROLLA, N.C. (WNCN) — A lightning strike triggered a fire that heavily damaged a beach house at the North Carolina Outer Banks on Monday morning, officials said.

The blaze was reported around 6:45 a.m. at a three-story home in the 900 block of Corolla Drive in the Whalehead area of Currituck County, according to reports.

Flames were visible coming from the roof as Corolla Fire & Rescue Squad crews arrived at the vacation rental home.

Ten people who had rented the home were inside at the time of the fire, according to Sam Walker with OBXNews .

Nine people were quickly out of the home, but one man was briefly trapped inside the home, but he soon made it out, Walker reported.

It took several fire agencies more than 20 minutes to get the fire under control.

The fire was not put out until another hour, Walker reported.

Those vacationing in the home were moved to another house, according to the Corolla Fire & Rescue Squad.

In addition to Corolla Fire, Duck Fire Department, Kitty Hawk Fire and Southern Shores Volunteer Fire Department assisted, officials said.

No one was injured.
