13-year-old boy missing off the coast of Corolla

COROLLA, N.C. (WAVY) — A 13-year-old boy is missing off the coast of Corolla, according to the Currituck County Fire & Emergency Medical Services (CCFEMS).

Around 12:42 p.m., CCFEMS was initially called to Persimmon Street about a group of people in distress. Officials said all but one of the people was rescued.

The Coast Guard and Ocean Rescue are assisting with the search effort. Video from a WAVY viewer shows a Coast Guard helicopter hovering above the scene.
