A 45-year-old man from Riverside County accused of a car-to-car shooting that left one man injured was arrested and is facing additional charges for opening fire while his child was reportedly in the vehicle late last month, authorities announced.

The violence, according to a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, unfolded just before midnight on June 23 on Temescal Canyon Road near Dawson Canyon Road.

Details are limited and it’s unclear exactly how the shooting happened, but the victim, an unidentified male, told deputies he was driving in the area at around 11:40 p.m. when he was struck by gunfire.

He was later taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Detectives with RCSD’s Lake Matthews Station assumed the investigation and identified Luis Orlando Quiroz, a resident of Corona, as a suspect.

Investigators say they later learned that the 45-year-old’s child was in his vehicle at the time of the shooting and was unharmed during the incident.

Quiroz was apprehended and taken into custody by members RCSD’s Major Crime Bureau on July 11 at 8:30, the release noted.

While executing a search of his residence, authorities recovered four handguns and ammunition of various calibers.

The 45-year-old was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment and unlawful possession of a firearm.

An investigation into the shooting is underway and, so far, investigators have not released a motive in the incident.
