    Bringing home gold: Robstown, San Diego, Beeville girls win state powerlifting titles

    Robstown and San Diego's dominance in powerlifting continued after the Lady Pickers and Lady Vaqueros each captured their third consecutive state championship on Friday at the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association state meet in Frisco.

    The Beeville girls also impressed in Class 4A Division I by bringing home gold with a score of 40 points.

    The Lady Pickers won the Class 4A school title with 29 points behind first-place performances from Leaya Alaniz (105); Taylor Alaniz (132) and Janessa Vela (198).

    San Diego also finished with 29 points to win the team title behind top finishes from Jalynn Garcia (165); Janiya Sanchez (114) and Taylor Garcia (123).

    The Trojans were led by first-place finishes from Annica Gonzales (123) and Jennifer Rodriguez (165).

    Other gold-medal finishes were Alice's Brooke Castillo (97); Santa Gertrudis Academy's Sophia Valenzuela (198); Agua Dulce's Thania Flores (123) and Hebbronville duo Alexandra Gomez (97) and Avri Darley (105).

    Several Coastal Bend athletes won silver medals in Tuloso-Midway's Celeste Godinez (165); San Diego's Taylor Ortiz (105); Bishop's Kaida Martinez (148) and Summer Alvarado (165); London's Paris Cruz (123); Odem's Breanna Palmer (165); Kingsville's Rilayna Utley (242); Skidmore-Tynan's Karelen Bastida (97) and Paula Gonzales (105) and Hebbronville's Gabby Ramos (242) and Beeville's Bianca Carrizales (114); Eldonnette Chancellor (148) and Addison Estrada (198).

    Third place finishes were Robstown's Amelynne Olguin; Beeville's Emily Olivares, Cyrianna Serrano and Abigail Martinez; Bishop's Abrianna Alaniz; Mathis' Isabella Gonzales; Mathis' Allison Garces; Mathis' Angel Carranza; Orange Grove's Briana Pena; Taft's Lisette Garza and Ben Bolt's Ava Adams.
