'Love put into each cup': Corpus Christi business 'honored' to win Best Coffee Bracket

Caller-Times readers made their voices heard on which Corpus Christi business serves the best coffee.

The community voted and the top 20 was narrowed to a top 10, then to a top five and then a top three.

After a collective 2,865 votes from Monday through Thursday, The Coffee Spot took home the crown for Best Coffee as voted by the people. It is located inside H-E-B Plus at 1145 Waldron Road in the Flour Bluff area.

In second place was Roasted Coffee Shop, and Bien Mérité Bakery and Restaurant placed third.

In the final round Thursday, The Coffee Spot received 1,410 votes out of 1,609.

The Coffee Spot is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday. It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Aside from coffee, the local business also serves lemonade, seasonal drinks and cream sodas.

The Coffee Spot is a family business, as Albert Sanchez Sr., his wife Monique and their three children — Albert Jr., Noah and Abigail — are all co-owners of the coffee shop.

The patriarch of the family said they originally opened in June 2023 and are just getting started.

"We've been looking at other H-E-Bs and other locations for a second location," Sanchez said. "Right now, we're currently working on a mobile truck. Hopefully that will be available in the next couple of months. We'd love to open a brick-and-mortar store in the future."

Sanchez said his dream — which family members have called him "crazy" for — is to open nine locations. He said he would love for all of his kids to have their own store one day.

"We've always loved coffee," Sanchez said of his family. "We fell in love with the idea of opening our own business, and the rest is history."

Sanchez said winning the title of Best Coffee as voted by Caller-Times readers is an honor.

"It shows that people enjoy our coffee," Sanchez said. "Since we're family owned, we put a lot of emphasis on customer service and making friendships with them. It means a lot to all of us. We will have people walk into H-E-B just to get a cup of coffee and then walk out. We also have customers of H-E-B that get a coffee before they shop. There's a lot of love put into each cup."
