CCFD's Brandon Wade to join Texas Commission on Fire Protection

Gov. Greg Abbott announced Wednesday he appointed Corpus Christi Fire Department chief Brandon Wade to be a commissioner for the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.

In a release, Daniel Buford of Montgomery, Texas, was also announced as a new commissioner with Wade.

Wade's commission term is set to expire Feb. 1, 2025. He succeeded former fire chief Robert Rocha in March 2023.

The commission develops and enforces statewide fire service standards and provides education and assistance to the industry.

"It is the regulatory agency for the fire departments across the state of Texas helping to establish standards for different levels of certifications for firefighters and fire officers," Wade said in a phone call. "There's a number of certifications that the commission has under its umbrella."

Wade said the commission helps advance all fire service departments in Texas to make sure they are "staying at the forefront."

"Not only at skills, but with technology, data and health for our firefighters," Wade said. "It's humbling to be appointed by the governor and work on the commission. I'm looking forward to working with the state and fire departments across Texas to advance all fire services."
