One of the best things about fall is Halloween. What comes with the holiday aside from candy and costumes?

    Getting scared.

For those brave souls looking to get spooked this autumn, check out these three Coastal Bend haunted houses.

The Hauntings of Boogeyman Haunted House

If you are looking for a truly terrifying experience this Halloween season, go to The Hauntings of Boogeyman Haunted House, where each year guests will find new attractions to scare you right out of your skin. This isn't your average haunted house, and it surely isn't for the faint of heart. The historical significance of the location on FM 666 means you will be mingling among the living and the undead as you brave through the Boogeyman's closet on your way to the main haunt and other bone-chilling haunted attractions. The haunted house is wheelchair accessible; children must be accompanied by an adult and able to walk through the maze on their own.

When: 8 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 4 through Nov. 2, plus Thursday, Oct. 31

Where: 4813 FM 666 in Mathis (near Calallen)

    Cost: $25

Contact: 361-288-5006, facebook.com/BoogeymanHauntedHouse for weekly specials

Dates and times sell out in advance, so secure your tickets early for the best prices. Be on your guard, as some scares might occur before you enter.

    Haunting on the Blue Ghost

The largest haunted house in South Texas and the most talked-about ghoulish attraction in Corpus Christi — the Haunting on the Blue Ghost — returns to send chills down your spine. The USS Lexington Museum and Castle of Terror Productions present a ghost ship experience that takes the bravest of souls down ladders and through more than 80 compartments on two decks of this historic aircraft carrier. With frights around every corner, this tour is only for the brave, so enter if you dare. Recommended for ages 8 and up, and guests must be able to navigate ladders and confined spaces.
