Less than a year after opening Fork & Vines, Ashley and Christian Bernard have opened their latest niche spot — Mia Mia's Pizzeria.

Located at 2806 Santa Fe St., right next to the couple's other business Sugarbakers, the pizza shop promises to provide a family- and pet-friendly place tucked away in the surrounding neighborhood. As well, Mia Mia's Pizzeria will also be the home to Sebastian's Scoop Shop — an ice cream shop featuring shakes, ice cream sandwiches and more.

"We're always try to do things different and do something that hasn't already being done," Christian Bernard said. "Combining the pizza, ice cream and outdoor space is one-of-a-kind. There's no neighborhood outdoor dining like us. There's places with patios downtown and in strip malls, but this is very neighborhood friendly; it's a game-changer."

The two used to have a pizza shop back in the day in downtown Corpus Christi called Urbana. But it shut down in early 2019 and is now Dokyo Dauntaun.

Ashley Bernard said Urbana was known for its pizza, and she's happy she and her husband can bring back those memories for customers.

Originally, the location became available two weeks before Fork & Vines opened in 2023. But when it became available, the two had a short conversation about their shared vision of what the site could become.

"Timing was not ideal at all, but we couldn't let it pass by," Christian Bernard said.

Ashley Bernard agreed and said, "We're crazy; literally crazy."

Mia Mia's Pizzeria will have sandwiches, pizza, pasta, salads and appetizers. The ice cream shop will carry 16 flavors (eventually) and have a Liège waffle sundae, banana splits and brownie sundaes.

Guests will be able to have fountain drinks, bottled drinks or enjoy one of the six beers or four wines on tap.

For its summer hours, the new local business will be open from 3 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Aside from supporting local business, why should you go visit Mia Mia's Pizzeria?

Ashley Bernard said the answer is simple: "We're a one-stop shop — pizza and ice cream. You can't go wrong."
