NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Tropical Storm Beryl is quickly gaining strength as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico. Water temperatures are 84 to 87 degrees. The Gulf is usually not this warm until mid-September, which is giving Beryl plenty of energy to strengthen.

Beryl is likely to become a category one hurricane before making landfall early on Monday. The current track has it making landfall north of Corpus Christi, Texas with life-threatening storm surge possible along the Texas Coast.

Beryl holds on to tropical storm strength as it moves through East Texas. It will become a tropical depression by the time it moves into Arkansas and Missouri.

In Middle Tennessee, the remnants of Beryl could come in by Tuesday with rain and storms continuing into Wednesday. Most of the rain will clear by Thursday morning based on the latest run of the EURO model.

A Marginal Risk (level one out of five) for severe storms goes into effect mostly along and north of I-40 on Tuesday into Wednesday morning. This is because of the remnants of Beryl and the unstable atmosphere.

A tenth of an inch to almost an inch of rain is possible through the first half of the week. This includes storms that will occur with the remnants of Beryl.
