This Saturday, free school supplies as well as immunizations and sports physicals will be available at the Corpus Christi Police Department's 13th annual back-to-school health and safety fair, Operation Safe Return.

Coordinated between CCPD, HEB, Driscoll Health Plan and KIII News, the annual event, themed "Back to Basics" this year, is designed to give every child the opportunity to receive necessary school supplies, obtain valuable health safety information, including dental education, and ensure a healthy start to the upcoming school year.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, at least 100 vendors will offer education, nutrition and health and safety information to attendees. Last year, more than 2,500 children in attendance received free school supply kits, and 125 children received physicals, according to CCPD Senior Officer Jennifer Collier.

With the event benefiting solely from donations and sponsorships, community members are encouraged to offer their support by donating to Operation Safe Return through PayPal, accessible by clicking on the CCPD's PayPal link.

The fair will be held at the American Bank Center at 1901 N. Shoreline Blvd. School-age children must be present to receive a backpack with school supplies. Parking and admission are free.
