Remains found in Corpus Christi well identified as missing college student Caleb Harris

The body of a missing college student from Central Texas has been found. Here's what we know.

City workers doing maintenance discovered Caleb Harris' body in a wastewater lift station on Monday, June 24, according to a Corpus Christi police report. Detectives found no evidence of homicide, and the remains were transported to the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office for examination.

Because of the advanced state of decomposition, the medical examiner was unable to identify the body or determine the cause of death.

The remains were then sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification (UNTCHI) to test DNA. Harris's parents also gave DNA samples for the analysis.

The DNA from the remains was a match for Caleb Harris.

"We all have heavy hearts this evening as we learned of the positive identification of our sweet Caleb. We will grieve our son," Harris' family said in a statement on Wednesday. "Thank you for your prayers and support during this tragic time."

Texas A&M student reported missing in March

Caleb Harris, 21, went missing in the early hours of March 4 from his Corpus Christi apartment. Originally from New Braunfels, he was a second-year student at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC).

Law enforcement worked with several local teams, including the drone team and the Search and Rescue Dive Team, as well as student and community volunteers in the search for Harris. The FBI, U.S. Marshals Service and Texas Rangers joined the investigative team.

In the months since Harris was reported missing, investigators issued over 50 digital warrants, submitted 82 preservation requests and analyzed more than 1500 GB of data, according to a post by the Corpus Christi Police Department.
