Town hall on Ruidoso fire, flooding recovery efforts set for Tuesday
RUIDOSO, N.M. (KRQE) – The State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) and partners will be hosting a Virtual Fire and Flood Recovery Town Hall on Tuesday. The event is being held to address the needs of residents and businesses impacted by the recent fires and flooding in New Mexico, according to DHSEM.

Gabriella Durán Blakey, who had been the district’s acting superintendent since March, took over Monday as the head of an organization with 141 regular public schools, more than 70,000 students and a staff of more than 10,000.

Officials take steps to address monsoon rains as Ruidoso businesses continue recovery
Even after storms brought significant flooding to Ruidoso and prompted over 160 water rescues, some businesses are still open, even as they contend with the weather. Village officials are asking tourists and second home owners to stay away for the time being, but in the same vein, some businesses are trying to get back to some level of normalcy.
Former Dora Schools Employee Sentenced
The former head of maintenance for Dora Consolidated Schools was found guilty of six counts involving unfair bidding practices in April after reportedly using his position to gain favorable bids for his own company with the school district. In a follow up to the story we covered, the Ninth Judicial District Attorney announced that Steven Butler, age 56, of Dora, NM, was sentenced to 3 years in the Department of Corrections for 6 counts involving unfair biding practices with the Dora Schools. The sentence includes 3 years in prison followed by 5 years of supervised probation. Butler was taken into custody with an appeal bond set at $10,000.00.

Santa Fe County announces utility water service rate increase
SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Santa Fe County Public Works Department is implementing a 3.3% increase in utility water service rates. The department says the additional revenue from the price increase will be used to fund operations, maintenance and upgrades for its infrastructure. Customers will see the new rates reflected on their August bill.
Izaiah Garcia Sentenced To Life Plus 13 Years In Prison For The Murder Of Cayla Campos
This afternoon, a jury convicted Izaiah Garcia of first-degree murder, depraved mind murder, shooting at a motor vehicle, armed robbery, assault with intent to commit a violent felony, tampering with evidence, child abuse and conspiracy. Garcia is guilty on all counts related to the 2019 murder of 21-year-old Cayla Campos. Garcia could face life plus 23 years, sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.
