Iowa State Patrol Reminds Drivers About Safety Around School Buses
(Des Moines) With schools back in session, the Iowa State Patrol is reminding drivers to be safe when they see school buses on the roads. “These buses are out there, so watch for those amber lights, and watch for the red lights coming on,” said Sergeant Alex Dinkla from the Iowa State Patrol. “The school buses make frequent stops, and we have to stop for these school buses, and we need to be safe so our precious cargo get on and off the buses safely.”
Sac City’s Cattlemen’s Steakhouse Celebrating Manger Being Recognized As Iowa’s 40 “Women To Watch” In Hospitality Industry
The restaurant manager for the Cattlemen’s Steakhouse in Sac City has been named one of the “40 Women to Watch” in Iowa’s Hospitality industry. Chelsea Funk has been nominated for her exceptional customer service skills, displaying a passion for her customers, the Cattlemen’s Steakhouse team, and the business. Funk has worked in service for most of her life, working in her mother’s bakery before becoming a server at the popular Sac City restaurant. It was not uncommon for customers to request to sit at one of Funk’s serving tables. A promotion to shift manager came quickly to Funk. She started working on the bar portion of the restaurant, spending almost a year and a half developing one of the top state craft cocktail and bourbon menus alongside the 2024 Top Mixologist Ellie Rastetter. Funk was nominated by her team, being defined as the “very essence of hospitality.” All 40 award winners will be recognized during the Iowa Restaurant Association Annual Celebrating Excellence Awards Ceremony on November 18, part of the Iowa Hospitality Showcase.
A Homes For Iowa House Has Been Delivered To Glidden
The Homes for Iowa spec house has arrived in Glidden and is awaiting to be placed on the foundation to give another option for affordable housing in the community. Last spring, the Glidden City Council approved donating a lot in a subdivision that has sat vacant for 15 years to Region XII Council of Governments (COG) for a two-bedroom, one-bath home to be constructed and delivered to Glidden through the HFI program. This opportunity has been made possible through financial assistance from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) Workforce Housing Tax Credit program. The house will be placed on the foundation next week and hooked up to utilities. Once completed, the house will be available for purchase. Questions or interested buyers are asked to contact City Administrator Brooke Peterson for more information.
