“My whole body would literally be drenched in sweat, my whole bed would be drenched in sweat, because I was getting so hot in here,” Sedrick Hopkins said.

Hopkins has been in Texas for seven years, trying to find a way to stay cool.

As a diabetic, staying cool is vital to manage his condition, but sometimes he has to choose between expensive AC bills or his health.

“That heat can kill us, especially being a diabetic — it can really kill you, but sometimes I suffer in the heat, because I think of the expense I will have to pay for after the fact,” Hopkins said.

Hopkins signed-up for “Operation: Beat the Heat.”

It's a new effort by the Coryell County Constable Precinct 1 and 2 to deliver fans to those in need, giving Central Texas neighbors some relief this summer.

25 News joined Constable Guy Beveridge to deliver a fan to Hopkins, and saw first-hand the impact it has on our community.

Beveridge says he saw a need for this operation last year, this summer, they have delivered nearly 30 fans, but have many more to go.

Hopkins says this fan does much more than just keep him cool, but it has impacted his day-to-day life.

“I’ve learned it’s okay to ask for help — small stuff like this fan, some people need it to survive," he said.

"You need air to help function properly, live better, even get through the day. It's a huge blessing to get this fan — it's a huge blessing."
