The bodies of two missing Georgia firefighters have been found in Cocke County. The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office announced late Sunday afternoon that two people were found dead inside a vehicle along Hollow Road in Cosby.

An announcement by the Hinesville (Georgia) Police Department confirmed the bodies found were those of Liberty County (Georgia) firefighters Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander.

The bodies were found nearly 400 miles from Liberty County in Anderson’s vehicle — a black 2017 Ford Fusion.

The pair had been reported missing June 24.

According to a report from TV station WJCL, family members said the two firefighters were romantically involved for years, but recently broke up.

The media outlet reported that on Saturday, June 22, Pooler (Georgia) Police arrested Anderson after she confronted Kuhbander and keyed his car. On Monday Kuhbander called his mom saying Anderson was “blowing up” his phone.

“I don’t believe that the investigation in any way is yielding an idea that whatever happened involved anybody else other than the two that were found,” said Hinesville Police Chief Tracey Howard as reported by WJCL Tuesday morning.

According to Howard, per WJCL, a person noticed a car along the side of the road in Cosby on Sunday and called first responders. The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call.

Cocke County Sheriff C.J. Ball said both his office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) are investigating the circumstances leading to the deaths.

Liberty County Fire Services released a statement on its website.

“Liberty County Fire Services is deeply saddened to receive the news regarding Lt. Raegan Anderson and Senior Firefighter Chandler Kuhbander,” the statement read. “These two extremely dedicated employees put their hearts and souls into protecting and serving the citizens of Liberty County. Our prayers, and those of the department, are with their families during this most difficult time.”

Ball said their bodies have been sent for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. He said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
