Georgia firefighters and high school sweethearts found dead in Tennessee

An investigation was underway on Tuesday after two Georgia firefighters, who were once high school sweethearts, mysteriously turned up dead in Tennessee over the weekend.

Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander were last seen on June 25. Just days earlier, Anderson burst into a local Olive Garden, where Kuhbander had been on a date at the time, WTOC reported.

Police said Anderson caused a “disturbance” and then keyed Kuhnbander’s car, resulting in her arrest on charges of second-degree criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct. She was also placed administrative leave by Liberty County Fire Services — where she and Kuhbander both worked — and demoted the day before their disappearance. She was last seen pumping gas at a Circle K in Prosperity in North Carolina last month.

Kuhbander was last spotted earlier in the day, around 11:30 a.m., leaving a Crunch Fitness in Savannah, but his mother told reporters his phone pinged at the same gas station where Anderson was seen.

Both Anderson and Kuhbander were discovered dead Sunday night on Hollow Road in Cosby, Tenn. Authorities also found Anderson’s vehicle, a 2017 Ford Focus with a dark tint, smoke-out tail lights, nearby.

“Liberty County Fire Services is deeply saddened to receive the news regarding Lt. Raegan Anderson and Senior Firefighter Chandler Kuhbander,” Fire Chief Brian Darby said in a statement.

“These two extremely dedicated employees put their hearts and souls into protecting and serving the citizens of Liberty County. Our prayers, and those of the department, are with the families during this difficult time.”

Authorities have released few other details in the case and their causes of death have not been provided. Their remains have been sent out for an autopsy, police said.

Kuhbander’s mother, Jane Kubander, said the pair had dated for seven years, since they were in high school. She told Court TV they’d split recently, after things between them turned “toxic.”
