School crossing guards cut from budget in city of Orange
Mornings outside of West Orange Elementary School are much busier now that school is back in session. However, something is missing this year.The city of Orange is no longer providing crossing guard services to Orange Unified School District schools due to budget cuts.Oscar Bautista, a parent of two daughters at OUSD said, "For me right now where I drop them off, it is an issue. OC Fire Ecology Internship expands research opportunities for fifth year
Crystal Cove Conservancy (The Conservancy), the nonprofit public benefit organization partnered with Crystal Cove State Park, will once again welcome high school students to the Fire Ecology Internship for the 2024-2025 school year. In partnership with California State Parks, Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC) and University of California, Irvine (UCI) Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences, the program offers local high school students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience studying the impact of fire on local ecosystems. New this year, students and land managers will also study how fire frequency can potentially alter the soil biome and the microbial life that lives within it.

Westview’s JROTC students participate in Leadership Academy over the summer

LOCA brings new creative classes
Two Consecutive Wednesdays: September 18 and 25, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Adult Beginning/Intermediate Laguna Seascape Painting in Oils with Lisa Rainey. Instructor Lisa Rainey is a beloved teacher of all ages. Classically trained through the Laguna College of Art + Design, Rainey has decades of experience as a fine artist working in a California Impressionist Style. She will be teaching oil painting (water soluble), scenes of Laguna Beach coves and hillsides inspired by the masters of Early California Impressionism. The focus is on drawing/composition, value studies, color mixing and color harmony, along with different textures and brushwork.

When Laguna College of Art + Design (LCAD) began planning their annual fundraiser, they aimed for something fresh – an event that wouldn’t require students, faculty, or artists to donate their work and could take place locally in Laguna Beach. The LCAD Gallery on Ocean Avenue, with its intimate and stylish ambience right in the heart of Downtown, seemed like the perfect venue.
