JACKSON COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — A woman who woke up from a two-year coma and said her brother was the one to attack her has died, according to her obituary page .

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in 2022, Wanda Palmer was attacked where she was hacked and left for dead in June 2020 near Cottageville. She had been hospitalized and was in a coma as a result of the incident.

According to a criminal complaint for her brother, Daniel Palmer III, authorities received a call on the morning of June 10, 2020, that Wanda Palmer’s neighbors had found her in her trailer home “injured and covered in blood.” Officers who arrived on the scene say they found her “slumped over on her couch” and said she was severely wounded and unresponsive.

Authorities described Wanda Palmer’s injuries as appearing that she had been “bludgeoned about the head and face with an object that caused lacerations.” She was taken to a hospital for treatment and was unable to communicate what had happened to the investigators. The complaint states Wanda Palmer remained unresponsive and was taken to a nursing home to be cared for.

She began saying “some single words” on June 27, 2022, according to that criminal complaint. On July 12, 2022, authorities went to talk to her when she said her brother was the one to attack her.

Daniel Palmer III was arrested on July 15, 2022, for the attack and was put in the South Central Regional Jail on a $500,000 bond.

Less than a week later on July 20, he was taken to the hospital, according to Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger at the time. He said Daniel Palmer III died a day later on July 21.
