COTTAGEVILLE, WV (WOWK) — The Jackson County Fair in Cottageville, West Virginia, offers not just carnival rides and games but also the experience to learn about farming and agriculture.

The 4-H Club and the FFA bring together dozens of kids to show off the animals they have spent the last year raising. From showcasing, where contestants display their animals for judges, to market, where they are rated based on the muscle, meat and size of the animal.

“You get to learn new things, you get to learn. A lot of it is responsibility,” Paisley Lamar, a member of the Kenna Succeeders 4-H said. “You learn so much stuff, being able to raise these animals and the responsibility that comes with it and just teaching you so many life lessons.”

The fair also offers opportunities for kids who are too young to be a part of 4-H through Clover Buds, an affiliate program for those eight and under.

And they just love to be around the animals.

“Well, you get to see a lot of animals and everything. and you can see other people’s animals,” said Kaydence Somerville. “It’s kinda fun.”

The Fair continues until Saturday, July 27, with admission opening at 7:30 a.m. and the Carnival opening at 6 p.m.
