Ulysses, Pa. — State police pulled a mentally-handicapped child from a pond after reports the child was walking unsupervised along the roadway.

Trp. Benjamin Sterling of state police at Coudersport was called to the 4400 block of Loucks Mills Road after a witness reported seeing a nude mentally-handicapped child walking in the roadway on July 5 around 8 a.m.

By the time Sterling arrived, the child had wandered into a pond and was beginning to submerge, he said. After going into the water and pulling the child out, the child was returned to family members.

Police did not say if anyone is being charged for the incident, which they reported as child endangerment.
