COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA — Former Pitt State Gorilla Gabby Schultz announced she will be getting into coaching joining the Iowa Western Community College Coaching Staff.

Schultz played Shortstop for the Gorillas where she had an impressive career.

In 2023, Schultz was the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year and a NFCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Winner. She was also a 3-time All-MIAA performer at that position.

She started 145 of the 150 games she appeared in. Defensively, she recorded 168 putouts with 268 assists.

At the plate, she had a career batting average of .329 with 83 RBI’s and 15 home-runs.

We caught up with Schultz on the decision to transition into coaching and why she chose Iowa Western.

Iowa Western CC Assistant Coach Gabby Schultz said, “So it was kind of one of those things. I finished up my career at Pitt State and I was like, What am I going to do? I’ve only played softball my whole life. So it was kind of one of those situations. And I texted people around, got in contact with some people and realized that it was something I was excited for. Yeah, so my previous JUCO coach is actually the head coach here at Iowa Western Heidi Jordan and reached out to her about, you know, maybe helping me find some GA spots somewhere and we got to talking and realized that her assistant role was opening up and that was something that I was really interested in and kind of fell into place”.
