Morgan Wallen Takes the Lead for CMA Awards 2024

The 58th Annual Country Music Awards ceremony is just around the corner and the nominations for the annual show were announced on September 6.

Leading the pack is Morgan Wallen, who received seven nods. The touring country artist hasn't won at the CMAs since 2020, when he was acknowledged as new artist of the year.

Following closely behind Wallen are Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton, receiving five nods each, while Lainey Wilson and Post Malone tied for third with four nominations. Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Megan Moroney, Charlie Handsome, Hoskins, Louis Bell and Kacey Musgraves all received three nods as well.

Entertainer of the year is lead by Stapleton, having secured his eighth nod. His competition for the title he has yet to win are Combs (fifth nod), Wallen (third nod), Wilson (second nod) and Jelly Roll (first nod).

Though 2024 has been a fantastic year for country artists, some high-profile albums did not make the cut in time for nominations. Since the eligibility period or the 2024 CMA Awards is July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, Post Malone's F-1 Trillion , Zach Bryan's The Great American Bar Scene , and Wilson's Whirlwind will not be qualified until next year; they all having been released after the deadline.

Despite Post Malone's F-1 Trillion album just missing the cut off date, his "I Had Some Help" was nominated as single of the year as well as song and music video of the year alongside Johnson's "Dirt Cheap."

This year's nominees for new artist of the year include Moroney (also nominated in the same category in 2023), Shaboozey, Nate Smith, Mitchell Tenpenny, Zach Top and Bailey Zimmerman (nominated two years ago).

For the first time in five years, Musgraves has once again received a nod for vocalist of the year, taking the place of Miranda Lambert, who had a 17-year streak of nominations in that category. Musgraves is also up for album of the year.

A final round of voting by eligible voting CMA members will determine the winners of this year's CMA awards. The results will be revealed in October and subsequently honored on Wednesday, November 20 on ABC at 8:00-11:00 P.M. ET and on Hulu the next day.
