PERTH AMBOY - One of the city's busiest intersections has been improved to increase pedestrian safety. The improvements at Smith and Goodwin streets, announced during a news conference Monday, include replacing the traffic light system to include pedestrian signals, Americans With Disabilities Act curb ramps, sidewalks and newly painted crosswalks.

Final cost for the improvements was $627,827.67 with Middlesex County and the city each sharing half of the construction cost.

“Over the past several years, Middlesex County has been investing in our transportation infrastructure,” said Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald G. Rios. “From large-scale projects like modernizing the New Brunswick Train Station, constructing the North Brunswick Train Station, and creating a new parking division with the Middlesex County Improvement Authority, to smaller but still crucial projects like this new traffic light system, we are working to ensure our roads are safer and more efficient for everyone who uses them, now and in the future.”

Perth Amboy Mayor Helmin J. Caba said turning on the new traffic signal at Smith and Goodwin street was a "landmark moment" for the city to make commutes safer and easier to navigate.

"This new traffic light system will help bring us closer to ending preventable traffic deaths and serious injuries from motor vehicle accidents here in Middlesex County,” said Middlesex County Commissioner Charles Kenny, chair of the Transportation Committee.

The community don’t understand why the reporters don’t write the negative of this mayor because he hasn’t done nothing positive. We don’t understand why you don’t write negative because there are a lot of negatives we taxpayers still want to know where in the hell he spent 16.8 million and used up our emergency surplus money also and we all wanna know every single penny is the law that the public has the right to know Where all the money went?

we need that light for a very, quite a long time because Perth Amboy is becoming too overpopulated. There’s no parking there are more cars than houses in Perth Amboy and the incompetent puppet Pinocchio Mayor Caba uses this ceremony as a political thing, nobody celebrates for a light fixture. Where do you see the town do celebration on lights?
