    Welcome to the first MyCentralJersey.com’s Big Central Conference Readers’ Choice Football Player of the Week poll of the 2024 season .

    Voting closes Thursday at noon.

    Please note that the votes don't always show up immediately. There are lags for the votes to register and a winner isn't declared until hours after the poll closes.

    Andrew Avent, Rahway

    The junior rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns, adding another score on a fumble return, plus a 2-point conversion in Rahway’s 41-14 win over Voorhees. Avent also pitched in on defense, recording seven solo tackles, including two for a loss, and three assists.

    Dylan Chiera, Colonia

    The junior quarterback helped the Patriots to a big 14-13 win in overtime against Sayreville. Chiera threw for 165 yards (15-of-28), including rushing for the winning 12-yard touchdown in the extra session.

    Nyekir Eato, Edison

    Eato was all over the field in Edison’s 27-0 win over East Brunswick. The senior scored four touchdowns and grabbed three interceptions. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder scored on a 19-yard run, a five-yard run, an 85-yard kickoff return and a 24-yard run. He finished with 18 carries for 118 yards.

    Mitchell Jenkins, Hillside

    The sophomore had quite a varsity debut for Hillside in its 42-20 win over Snyder. Jenkins rushed for 170 yards and had touchdowns of 55, 5, 1 and 4 yards.

    Jamad Lyles, Elizabeth

    The senior sealed Elizabeth’s 35-28 win over Linden with a fourth-quarter inception. Lyles also rushed for two touchdowns (4 and 3 yards) and rushed for 35 yards on 12 carries.

    Brandon Macaluso, Monroe

    The senior threw three touchdown passes and was 19-for-30 passing for 187 yards as Monroe snagged the 31-30 win over Scotch Plains-Fanwood. The senior also rushed for a score.

    Brady Scheier, Somerville

    Scheier saved the day in Somerville’s huge 21-20 win over Hillsborough. The senior made a diving pass deflection on the would-be go-ahead 2-point conversion pass attempt with 1:28 left. He also made five tackles and had six catches for 46 yards.

    Giovanni Veliz, Hunterdon Central

    Veliz rambled for 152 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns as the Red Devils claimed the 42-14 rivalry win over North Hunterdon. The junior scored on runs from 2, 15 and 5 yards.
