Somerset County’s sixth annual Diversity Festival will feature multicultural music and dance performances, food trucks, games, and prize drawings for people of all ages.

The free festival is from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 along Main and Grove streets in Somerville.

“Every year the festival gets bigger and better. I don’t think there is another venue in the county where so many cultures are represented in one day,” said Somerset County Commissioner Director Shanel Y. Robinson in a press release. “Participating in the games and activities and enjoying the multicultural music are some of the best ways to break down barriers and learn about other cultures, which is what this festival is all about.”

There will be multicultural music and dance performances from around the world, with Motown, Colombia and South American, African, Native American, and European-style folk music. Dancers will perform classical Chinese and Bollywood-style dance.

Food trucks will offer European, African, Jamaican and Mexico-inspired food, and more.

Crafters will offer traditional multicultural merchandise including Japanese crafts, handmade clothing, scarves and more.

Diversity-related organizations will provide resources, access to resources and information.

Among the entertainment is “The History of Colombian Coffee Farmers,” an interactive info-game for the whole family. Attendees can enter a prize drawing to win a bag of authentic Colombian Coffee.

There will be games, prize drawings, and giveaways throughout the day. Prizes are donated by local businesses made possible through a partnership between the Diversity Festival Event Committee and the Somerset County Business Partnership.

Parents can bring their children to the Kidz Zone to enjoy a bounce house, and see Conrad the Magician’s magic show. There will be face painting, info-games, and more.

Parking is free at the Bernie Field Parking Deck on High Street or in the parking deck at 27 Warren St.

The festival is one of several Somerset County diversity initiatives launched in 2019 to help educate, embrace, encourage, and support diversity among the county’s multicultural residents, and to help continue creating connections within the county’s communities.
