EDISON – The township has a new municipal court judge and she's one of the youngest in the state.

Judge Malia Reichmann, a 32-year-old Edison native, recently was sworn in to a three-year term. She is the third woman judge appointed by Mayor Sam Joshi.

"The appointment of Judge Reichmann is a step towards our elected officials representing our diverse community," Joshi said. "Her deep understanding of our township and commitment to justice will be an asset to our judicial system."

Reichmann, who has a degree from Columbia Law School, is an experienced lawyer.

"Being appointed as a Municipal Court Judge in the Township of Edison – my hometown and where I now live – is truly a dream come true," said Reichmann, who thanked the mayor and the Edison Township Council for entrusting her with upholding laws that make the community safe, beautiful and a welcoming place for everyone.

Reichmann's LinkedIn page states she works as general counsel at Weiss Properties.

In a video on her LinkedIn page about how at age 32 she became one of the youngest judges to serve in the state's history, Reichmann said she's honored to have been appointed as a municipal court judge in Edison. She said her legal career began at 3 months old when her mother brought her on stage for her New York University Law School graduation.

"And from there it was love at first sight, " Reichmann said in the video, adding that she attended Yeshiva University's Sy Syms School of Business and graduated as valedictorian, speaking before thousands at Madison Square Garden.

She chose to attend Columbia Law School as a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar and it was there that she realized she would love to be a judge on day.

"A judge is tasked with keeping a community harmonious, safe and beautiful. I grew up in Edison, New Jersey and now I am back," she said. "I hope to make you (Edison) proud, and I hope to not see you in my courtroom."
