    South Jersey is heading back to school. Here are some local supply drives

    August means back-to-school prep. Suddenly the stores are flooded with school supplies and the trending backpacks, and parents are scrambling to find the items on their children's supply lists.

    But where should you turn if you have a little extra to give, or need a little extra help getting your child ready for September?

    Here are some back-to-school drives happening around South Jersey. We'll keep the list updated with ways to donate and receive donations as they become available.

    Burlington County supply drive - through Aug. 15

    How to donate:

    Families in Burlington County can donate backpacks and other school supplies to families in need by dropping off items at any county library, government building lobby or the legislative office of Sen. Troy Singleton, (D-Burlington), at 400 North Church St., Suite 260, Moorestown.

    Suggested donations include: backpacks, calculators, binders, paper, folders, notebooks, composition books, pencils, pencil cases, pens, crayons, markers, highlighters, erasers, small hand sanitizers, lunch boxes, scissors and index cards. Only new items will be accepted.

    How to receive donations:

    Families in need can receive donations by registering at TroySingleton.com/backpacks .

    Donations are only available to Burlington County residents, and they must RSVP and register.

    Shades of Worship outreach and giveaway - Aug. 17

    How to receive:

    This supply drive and prayer event is open to all who attend. The church will be supplying kids and families with groceries, 300 backpacks and other back-to-school necessities.

    An Inspira health van will be on site, and free light haircuts and styling are to be provided by Kingmate Beauty Boutique and Royal Blue Barbershop.

    The drive will take place at 3 p.m. at Timber Creek High School in Sicklerville.

    Angels Community Outreach Big Back to School Event - Aug. 25

    How to donate:

    Pitman's Angels Community Outreach is collecting donations for local kids in need for the upcoming school season. The organization is taking a special focus to items that are often overlooked for back-to-school, such as toiletries, cereal, after school snacks, pajamas, underwear, sneakers and more.

    Donations can be dropped off or mailed to 334 South Broadway, Pitman, NJ 08071.

    Financial donations can also be made via PayPal, Venmo and Amazon Wishlist.

    How to receive:

    Angel's Community Outreach's Big Back to School Event will take place Aug. 25.

    Those interested in receiving donations can fill out a Google Form from the organization, posted on its Facebook page.

    While the nonprofit is located in Gloucester County, those not local to the area are welcome to attend so long as they've registered and are able to attend.

    Applications will be selected, and families will be notified by end of day Aug. 19.

    Free haircuts from Troy Singleton - Aug. 31

    Kids 12 and under from New Jersey's 7th legislative district can get a free haircut for the new school year, courtesy of Sen. Troy Singleton, (D-Burlington).

    Haircuts will be provided at Moguls Barbershop, which is located at 1821 Cinnaminson Ave., Cinnaminson, NJ.

    Students from Beverly, Bordentown City, Bordentown Township, Burlington City, Burlington Township, Cinnaminson, Delanco, Delran, Edgewater Park, Fieldsboro, Florence, Moorestown, Mount Laurel, Palmyra, Riverside, Riverton, and Willingboro are eligible and should provide a valid student ID if possible.

    Deptford Mall's back-to-school book drive - through Sept. 15

    How to donate:

    Through Sept. 15, patrons at the Deptford Mall can donate new or gently used books to support BookSmiles, a local nonprofit based in Pennsauken.

    Donation bins will be available on the lower level of Center Court near Macy’s as well as at various community events throughout the summer, such as August Kid's Mini Theater Show on Aug. 22, Family Football Fest on Aug. 31, and Overtime Promotions Phillies Appearance on Thursday, Sept. 12.
