    Linebackers to Watch

    10. Mason Grabowski, Shawnee. The Renegades have a long tradition of standout players at the linebacker position. Grabowski is the latest in that line after notching 95 total tackles last season.

    9. Rocco DeBiaso, Mainland. One of the key returning figures for the defending state champions, DeBiaso figures to be right in the mix after six sacks and 99 total tackles last fall.

    8. Devin Smith, Holy Cross. The Lancers put a big emphasis on defense and that defense is built around Smith. Last fall, the senior had a total of 111 tackles, including seven behind the line of scrimmage.

    7. Alex Grippo, Delsea. The defending Group 3 state champs have a great anchor to build their defense around. Grippo had six sacks, a dozen TFLs and 91 tackles overall last season.

    6. Jayden Jones, Millville. Jones fills up the stat sheet for one of the area’s top programs. The junior had three sacks, nine tackles for loss and 43 total tackles last season.

    5. Ausar Heard, Winslow. One of the best freshmen in the state last fall, Heard is intent of improving on a season where he had 85 tackles including three behind the line of scrimmage.

    4. Amir Reason-Dallas, Timber Creek. The Chargers have a very active welcoming committee, led by Reason-Dallas. Last season, 94 ball carriers met Reason-Dallas, 76 times as a solo tackler.

    3. Jaylen Robinson, Washington Township. At the heart of the Minutemen’s defense, this junior stands tall. Robinson posted 116 total tackles with three sacks and 13 tackles for loss.

    2. Donovan Linthicum, Oakcrest. If you play offense against the Falcons, get used to seeing Linthicum — a lot. The junior had 122 totals tackles and three sacks last season.

    1. Matt Bonczek, St. Augustine. The lone returning All-South Jersey first team linebacker, Bonczek stopped 71 ball carriers last season, including two sacks and six tackles for loss.
