EVESHAM - The Cake Boss has left South Jersey.

Carlo’s Bakery has closed its Marlton Square shopping center location after opening nearly 10 years ago there to much fanfare.

It’s listed as permanently closed on Google, and the location at 300 Route 73 North has also been removed from the Carlo’s Bakery website.

A Courier Post reporter called the Carlo's Bakery flagship store in Hoboken to inquire about the status of the Marlton store and got this response: “No, that one is closed permanently,” a Carlo’s Bakery employee confirmed. “We’re just evolving in different ways.”

The Hoboken store was the setting of the hit TLC TV series “Cake Boss”.

Owner and master baker Buddy Valastro, aka “Cake Boss”, was the star of the reality series, which ran from 2009 to 2020. It showed Valastro’s family-owned bakery and its staff’s talent in making intricate and extremely creative custom cakes for weddings and other special occasions.

When it was announced a Carlo’s Bakery location would open in South Jersey, at the height of the show's popularity, there was an air of excitement. The store opened in November of 2014.

“While Evesham Township never wants to see any business close in our township for any reason, from our understanding, this closure in the Marlton Square Shopping Center comes at a time when several other locations in the Carlo’s operation have closed in New Jersey and elsewhere in recent years, as the owners focus on alternative methods of sales and distribution,” Evesham Mayor Jaclyn Veasy said in a statement to the Courier Post. “We wish them all the best.”

The mayor stated that the township continues to have several “great local options for bakeries.”

“We also look forward to other upcoming and exciting options for food that have been announced specifically for the Marlton Square Shopping Center, including Federal Donuts and Tacoria,” she added.

Carlo’s Bakery, founded in 1910, currently has eight other locations listed on its website. In addition to Hoboken, there are two locations in New York, one each in Connecticut, Florida, Minnesota, Texas and Nevada. A location in Philadelphia closed in December.
