Here's the scoop: Dessert spot Scoop DeVille to its ice cream brand to South Jersey

Scoop DeVille, a popular ice cream shop with two Philadelphia locations and a third one on the way, is coming to South Jersey.

The Westmont area of Haddon Township at 101 Haddon Avenue will be the site of the new location, with an aim for a soft opening sometime during the winter.

More ice cream options for South Jersey are will soon be on tap.

“Yes, we are coming to South Jersey - in the space currently occupied by Rita's on Haddon Avenue,” Scoop DeVille owner Spencer Philips told the Courier Post. “They'll be moving out mid-October. We'll then see what sort of work we need to do, move equipment in, signage, learn, figure out health departments and inspections in Jersey, and hopefully soft open sometime over the winter and grand open in the spring.”

Philips, who moved to Haddonfield in 2020, said he selected South Jersey because he’s had his eyes peeled for potential opportunity areas for a Scoop DeVille location since he made the move from Philadelphia.

His South Jersey location will be on the corner of Haddon Avenue and Cooper Street.

“I think there's a lot of opportunity in the South Jersey area for what we do,” he explained. “Not only is it homemade, which is few and far between in the Haddonfield-Westmont-Collingswood corridor, but we make custom flavors on the spot. Plus, ice cream cakes and our catering options, I think, are going to be a huge hit for all the families in the area.”

Philips already offers ice cream cake pickup and delivery to South Jersey. He brings them from the Philly stores and says that they've received a good amount of attention, already. On a recent weekend, he brought a Sundae Bar to South Jersey for an 8-year-old’s birthday party.

While South Jersey is home now, Philips grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, attended the University of Pennsylvania and lived in Philadelphia for about 15 years before moving to Haddonfield four years ago.

He will also soon open a Scoop DeVille location in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia.

More expansion is planned for the future, but those locations have yet-to-be determined.

“We plan to continue expanding but I'm not sure where yet,” Philips added. “This will be our first suburban location and our first location with a parking lot. First location that isn't solely focused on foot traffic walking by. And, hopefully, first location with a drive thru.

“Once we see how all of that affects and changes the business, we will consider additional suburban locations for sure - both South Jersey and the Pennsylvania side. I also have sisters in the D.C. area and parents in South Florida, so lots of interesting possibilities.”
