CAMDEN — Adventure Aquarium has announced the death of Anchor, a beloved and well-known hammerhead shark at the venue.

"Anchor was a tremendous ambassador for his species for 20 years," Adventure Aquarium posted on Facebook.

Anchor's fans quickly swarmed Adventure Aquarium's page to share their stories and photos of their own.

As of Wednesday, there were 207 comments on the aquarium's Facebook post. An additional 121 responded to the news on the venue's Instagram.

"I’m so sad to hear this," Facebook user Megan Witkovsky wrote. "We love how Anchor always came to swim by and steal the spotlight whenever there was a talk or presentation going on. At our last visit last month, our son got a big hammerhead stuffy who he named Anchor. We’ll give it extra hugs now and remember Anchor fondly.

"The big tank will never be the same."
