BRIDGETON — Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, for Detective Sgt. Monica Mosley of the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Mosley, 51, was fatally shot during an apparent home invasion on Tuesday night, Oct. 15. An investigation is underway, but no arrests have been announced.

According to her obituary, Mosley was dedicated to her job and to serving the community.

But the mother of three and grandmother of four also enjoyed life and was a source of pleasure to those who knew her, the obituary says.

“In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, shopping, eating good food and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her beloved pitbull, Chyna,” it notes.

“Most of all Monica enjoyed having fun and was the life of the party, often bringing smiles to all who knew her," the tribute continues, adding Mosley was an avid fan of Prince and the Philadelphia Eagles.

A Bridgeton native and city resident for most of her life, Mosley graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1991 and received an associate’s degree from Cumberland County College.

She spent almost 20 years at the prosecutor’s office, working in the Juvenile Unit, Evidence Unit and Special Victims Unit.

“With hard work and dedication, she earned her promotion to Detective Sergeant in the Internal Affairs Unit, being the first African American woman in Cumberland County to earn such a position,” her obituary notes.

Mosley worked previously for a law firm and in the federal court system in Delaware.

Services will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Bridgeton High School, 111 N. West Ave., Bridgeton, where friends may call after 8 a.m.

Burial will be in Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell.
