Coventry is heading back to the PAC.

Principals Athletic Conference commissioner Gary Woods confirmed Thursday Coventry accepted an offer to rejoin the conference after two decades away. The Coventry Board of Education accepted the invitation at its meeting Wednesday.

Timing for the move has yet to be determined, though Woods said he knows Coventry will meet with the Metro Athletic Conference to discuss the move.

"Usually, it's a two-year exit," Woods said. "They have a meeting with the Metro in the next week or so."

Coventry was a founding member of the PAC in 1989, but left in 2005 to join the Portage Trail Conference. The Comets also were founding members of the Metro Athletic Conference in 2020.

At present, the PAC consists of Canton South, Fairless, Manchester, Northwest, Orrville, Triway and Tuslaw as full members. Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy will play football this fall with the PAC before joining the North Coast Conference.

Woods said the PAC will not explore any expansion beyond replacing CVCA.

"Right now, we're content to be an eight-public school league," Woods said.

MAC commissioner Chris Pavlik said he was aware of the move and plans to find a new eighth member.

"I knew this would happen at some point, just because of Coventry's size," Pavlik said. "I knew since December that they [were] exploring. We would want to fill that vacancy by the 26-27 school year. I wish we could of proactive about this."

Pavlik said the MAC had yet to have any discussions with other schools. Along with Coventry, the MAC consists of Cloverleaf, Field, Norton, Ravenna, Springfield, Streetsboro and Woodridge.
