Coweta County’s cycling community keeps getting stronger, and so does the cycling career of Newnan resident Elliott Baring. In early June, Baring won the 2024 Life Time Unbound Gravel Race in Emporia, Kansas. He bested 1,499 other cyclists and finished with a time of four hours, 56 minutes, just an eyelash ahead of second-place finisher Alexis Cartier.

For the fifth consecutive summer, the Newnan-Coweta History Center presents its “Passport to Coweta” program for kids. This popular program involves a printed “passport” that’s filled with historic location “stops” around Coweta County. The recommended ages for the program is 5 to 12 years old. To participate, visit the McRitchie-Hollis Museum at 74 Jackson St. during regular hours to pick up a passport and instructions. From there, travel to all local historic stops and collect stamps along the way. Stops this year include the old Newnan Hospital (now University of West Georgia’s Newnan campus), the Coweta County Genealogical Society, Brown’s Mill Battlefield, Newnan Carnegie Library, Senoia Historical Society, Moreland Hometown Heritage Museum, the African-American Museum, The Newnan Times-Herald, Newnan Cotton Mills, and Newnan Chapel UMC.
