Westmoreland County Friday Night Lights - Week One
The combination of Kyle Dupill and opportunistic defense and special teams sparked Franklin Regional in a 49-26 road win against Hempfield Area. Dupill notched 107 yards rushing and three scores on the ground, while the Panthers’ defense created four turnovers, including a pick-six, and the special teams yielded a kickoff return score. Jaymier Austin produced the 82-yard kickoff return, while Darwin Jones notched the interception return score for FR, which moved to 2-0. The Spartans, who dipped to 0-2, were led by returning QB Dom Detruf, who went 19-of-37 for 309 yards, with three TDs and a pair of interceptions. Aidan Stinebiser had three receptions for 45 yards and two TDs for the Spartans, while Nick Marquis recorded two catches for a team-best 70 yards receiving and a score.

It was another high-scoring affair between Mt. Pleasant and Greensburg Central Catholic, and this year’s iteration took double overtime. Vikings quarterback Cole Chatfield found sophomore running back Stephen Predajna wide open in the right flat for a touchdown, and Predajna punched in the 2-point conversion for a 36-35 Mt. Claim to fame: Patterson, a transfer from Greensburg Central Catholic, has made an immediate impact with the Spartans. The talented forward scored two goals as Hempfield defeated North Hills, 2-1, to break an 18-game losing streak. Patterson also scored a goal in the season-opening loss to Connellsville. Patterson also has two assists this season. Her career goal total is 35, and she said she would like to reach 50 before she graduates next year.

Women's Soccer Drops Physical Battle to Lycoming
GREENSBURG – The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team took Ridilla Field for the first time since 2022 and dropped a physical game to the Warriors of Lycoming by a score of 2-1. The Bobcats lone goal scorer was freshmanRiley Gesinski, who took just over 15 minutes to score her first collegiate goal for the Bobcats. Senior Keeper Paige John made five saves in the game, four coming in the first half. The Warriors out shot the Bobcats 13-4, and 7-3 in shots on goal. Lycoming also had 11 corner kicks in the match. The sides combined for 27 fouls and five cards in the match.
Women's Volleyball opens season with two wins at St. Vincent Bearcat Challenge
LATROBE, Pa. - The RIT Women's Volleyball team opened the 2024 campaign with a pair of victories at the St. Vincent Bearcat Challenge, Friday, in Pennsylvania. The Tigers started with a 3-2 (23-25, 27-25, 25-16, 23-25, 17-15) win over Bethany before coming back for a 3-2 (25-27, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-9) win over the host Bearcats.
Men's Soccer Falls in Tough Matchup against Juniata
GREENSBURG: It was a tough day for the Bobcat Men's Soccer team as they opened their 2024 campaign with a 5-0 loss to the Eagles of Juniata. Sophomore keeper Nick Braun made seven saves, but the pressure of the Eagles was too much for Pitt-Greensburg as the team was out shot 27-4 and 12-1 in shots on goal. Juniata forward Jalen Holliday had quite the opener, accumulating five points with two goals and an assist.
Women's Volleyball Competes Well in First Day of Bearcat Challenge
LATROBE – it was quite a day for Pitt-Greensburg sophomore outside hitter Madison Friess as she recorded 26 kills over two matches, but it was not enough for the Bobcats to come out with a victory in day one of the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge. The Bobcats dropped their first match of the day to host Saint Vincent 3-1. The Bison of Bethany took the nightcap by a score of 3-0. It was a competitive match between the Bearcats and Bobcats as the first three sets were all withing four points. The Bearcats took sets one and three 25-21 while the Bobcats took set 2 25-23. The hosts finished off the visitors 25-19 in set four. Grace Bradley and Abigail Smulik both had double-digit assists while senior Alanna Mely had 20 digs in the match.

Tonight's game is coming to you live from Latrobe Memorial Stadium at Latrobe plays host to Plum! The host Wildcats head into tonight's game on the heels of a 41-0 shutout win at Connellsville, while Plum looks to bounce back from a 42-7 loss to Franklin Regional. Ron Prady's Wildcats team scored with a defensive touchdown on the first play of the game last week and never looked back. The team forced six turnovers in the big win. Standout running back/linebacker Alex Tatsch, a Penn State recruit, carried the ball five times for 86 yards, including a 51 yard touchdown run. For Latrobe, the team is looking to build on momentum gained in recent years. From a 3-7 record while playing in 5A in 2021, the team improved to 8-4 last year and won a playoff game before losing to Aliquippa in the quarterfinals. Matt Morgan's Plum squad has found itself in the middle of the pack the past three years after an 8-0 season in 2020 that ended with a trip to the 4A semifinals.
