CRANDON, Wis. -- The Polaris Crandon World Championship announced Saturday its 55th running will be held on Labor Day weekend, with one section bringing vintage Volkswagens to Crandon from all over the country.

The competition said a group of more than 30 vintage Volkswagens and their teams are expected to make the fourth annual journey to Crandon from around the country, in attempts to win the largest short-course off-road race in the world. Almost all the cars coming to Wisconsin are making the drive from the western U.S.

To prepare for the race, the competition said the Class 11 Volkswagen racers will participate in Crandon's open test day on Aug. 29, before being featured in a race under the lights on Aug. 30. Labor Day weekend's big race to earn a coveted Crandon World Championship ring will take off on Sep. 1, as the cars take part in the 9th annual Red Bull Crandon World Cup.

Additional event and weekend wristband purchases, along with official registration for camping, can be found at crandonoffroad.com .
